Ability to model safe, responsible, legal and ethical use of technology and implement school and district acceptable use policies including fair-use and copyright guidelines and Internet user protection policies.
Ability to develop and implement a classroom management plan to ensure equitable and effective student access to available technology resources.
Ability to promote, model, and communicate the safe, legal and ethical principles of digital citizenship, equitable access, digital etiquette, and responsible online social interactions in a global culture including respect for copyright, intellectual property, the appropriate documentation of sources, and Internet user protection policies.
Digital Citizenship Project: The link below displays a created webpage that covers the importance of digital citizenship. This was a group project that includes information and resources that can help students, parents and teachers understand the importance of proper usage on the internet, using email and prevention of plagiarism when using other's material. The material is compiled in an organized and reader friendly format. It gives the necessary information in creative ways.
Reflection: The webpage project and it's headings addressed and met all of the standards associated with digital citizenship. The weebly page included information that models safe, responsible, legal and ethical use of technology. It also addresses acceptable use policies for school, copyright guidelines and internet user protection policies under specific headings on the page. This information gave me the tools I needed to teach my students the importance of following guidelines related to technology use. The students enjoy using technology but they must know how to use it properly as it relates to legal and ethical uses.
The project also addressed a plan for classroom management to ensure equitable and effective student access to available technology resources. The equitable digital access page of the project addresses those concerns so that all students will have access to technology. The project met the standards based on the required content addressed under each heading at the top of the page. My students all have access to a Chromebook in the classroom and this information helped me create a plan and an accountability page for using the devices.
Digital etiquette, responsible online and social interactions are also addressed on the page to ensure students safety while using social sites or any site in the classroom. The third standard is an overall view of the things included in the weebly project. High school students complete many research projects and papers and the information about plagiarism, appropriate documentation of sources and copyright information is helpful to them. This project helped me relay that information to my students using a variety of formats.
This assignment prepared me for expounding further on the acceptable use and technology policies already enforced in our school district. The 5E lesson planned involved students creating technology products, so this information assisted me in relaying the information to them. The weebly page included visuals and videos to help express the importance of proper use on the legal and ethical level. The students already knew about plagiarism but the information on copyright materials was new to them.
